NextGen represents a comprehensive overhaul of the National Airspace System (NAS), a policy- and technology-based evolution from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management. The goal of the NextGen movement is to deliver real benefits to operators and customers, making air travel more convenient and dependable for the latter while reducing costly gridlock, delays, and fuel consumption for the former.
